Wonderful weekend

Melissa Fischer

We had a really great weekend, so I thought I would share just a little bit of our fun.

We kicked off our weekend Friday with the arrival of our homestudy paperwork!!! I was so excited to receive it in the mail so quickly after finally choosing and signing on with a local agency earlier in the week. Needless to say, we tore the package open right away, and were immediately overwhelmed by how much was there. Nonetheless, it still felt really good to have physical pieces of the adoption process actually in our hands. We are now legally getting one step closer each paper will fill out and each form we sign. It was again a reality check for us that THIS.IS.IT! Here we go!

Saturday we got to drive down to Carlsbad {near San Diego} to spend some time with family. My extended family was vacationing in SoCal all of last week, and invited us to come down to spend a day with them at their resort. My brother, Cameron, and his girlfriend, Katie, joined us as well. It was a really fun day catching up with family, some of whom we hadn’t seen in 5 years! The resort was great. They had a bounce house, which Raena loved, and a really great pool/water park area. We took the kids swimming and they absolutely loved it.

Sunday evening my cousin, his wife and their daughter came to stay with us the last two nights of their trip. We had such a wonderful time together talking about life, relationships, parenting and how God works in and through it all. We were truly blessed by the intentional and uplifting conversations we were able to have with them.

Travis also has this week off before he starts his new job next week. So, Monday we were able to take our visitors to Santa Monica for a relaxing afternoon of sunshine and the beach. It was so refreshing to be out and about with no real agenda. We just took things slow and enjoyed the fresh ocean breeze. Days like that really remind me how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful area of the country. We ended the day relaxing at home with more great conversation and pizza {of course}.

As if that Monday didn’t sound wonderful enough as it was, we were also receiving updates all afternoon about Trav’s brother, Parker, and his wife, Kristi, being in labor with our first nephew! Most of you who know me know that I love all things baby related. I love talking about pregnancy updates, labor stories, delivery stories, parenting styles, etc… I have been referred to as nosey {I like to think that it just means I care} which I think makes me one of the most reactionary and invested people in most situations. So, you can imagine all of the texting I was doing with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law {not the one in labor, I’m not that crazy} trying to get all of the latest updates. It was a super fun and exciting 24 hours.

And, needless to say, we ended our weekend on Tuesday {because weekends go til Tuesday apparently} with the biggest {or tiniest at 6lbs 11oz} blessing of all! Our first nephew, Timothy Richard Avery Fischer, was born Tuesday evening at 7:24pm CST. We cannot tell you how thrilled we are to be an uncle and auntie for the second time. I also cannot tell you how much my heart aches to not be able to snuggle that sweet boy who is nearly 2,000 miles away.

This is the first picture we received of our sweet nephew, Timothy Richard Avery Fischer.

Congratulations daddy Parker and mama Kristi! We are so happy for you! Thank you for giving us our first nephew. We cannot wait to meet him in person. We love you!

Like I said, we had a great weekend. Taking today to bask in the sweet remnants of it and thank God for His abundant gifts… and to continue on in our stack of adoption papers. Back to work.
